The Left Hand Path can be ordered from Edred.net: http://edred.net/2010/06/17/left-hand-path/ From the above page: The book and its authorThis book is a little gem that has got all too little attention. Tapio Kotkavuori wrote the book in San Francisco during early months of 2004. The book was published first in Finnish in 2004, causing some alarm from Christians who first succeeded to ban the book from two big Finnish libraries. Eventually, the book got itself into the libraries after getting quite a bit of attention that ridiculed those who banned the book. It was the first time in some 20+ years that the main city library of Turku, a major city in South-West of Finland, tried to ban a book from its shelves. The persons who wanted the book banned were sure that it encouraged people (especially youth) into unlawful activities. It is paradoxical, that those who tried to ban the book didn’t read even its foreword – in the foreword the author explains why many on the right hand path are eager to accuse those on the left hand path of things that has absolutely no basis on reality. The storm around the book was noticed also by City-Lehti (City-magazine) of Finland that many years later included The Left Hand Path on their list of ”10 most dangerous books of the early 21st century”. During the years of the book’s publisher Voimasana’s existence (which closed its activity in 2008) the book was published in four editions. The latest one was published in 2008 as a hardcover, which is now sold out collectors item. The first English edition of the book was published by Voimasana in 2006. Also this edition has been sold out. The only place that sells The Left Hand Path currently in English (and also in Finnish there are only few copies left in few places) is the Edred.net In addition to The Left Hand Path Tapio Kotkavuori has written about his time in San Francisco and his writing process of The Left Hand Path in his book Saatanan Mustat Nahkasiivet, eli Sodoman 104 päivää, eli San Franciscon päiväkirja. The book has not been published in English, but in Finnish it has been published also as an audio book. In addition to these two books Kotkavuori has written introductions to Finnish editions of The Satanic Bible and a classic grimoire La Poule Noire. He has also translated Stephen Flowers’ and Crystal Dawn’s The Carnal Alchemy to Finnish (Lihan Alkemia, Voimasana, 2007). In 2005 Gemina Stella published some of Kotkavuori’s sonic magical recordings on a CD called Terra Hyperborea. As a sidenote for the curious of the Kotkavuori trivia, the publishers of Terra Hyperborea placed (with Kotkavuori’s approval) an obituary of Tapio Kotkavuori in Turun Sanomat (the biggest newspaper in South-West of Finland) around the time when Kotkavuori decided to focus his Work outside of the Temple. The obituary caused a major speculations and rumours among the occult circles of Finland. On a famous Finnish discussion board there appeared a record amount of comments on the news of Kotkavuori’s ”death”. During his active Temple of Set years (1991-2007) Tapio Kotkavuori reached the Degree of Magister Templi IV* and was considered for the Degree of Magus V*. He has since then focused his Work in other context but has kept warm relationship with the Temple. The High Priestess of the Temple granted him a status of Honorary Setian in 2008. During his active years he was a Grand Master of the Order of the Great Bear of the Temple of Set. The emphasis of Work in the Order is well present in The Left Hand Path, especially in its practice section. Kotkavuori’s articles have been published in various Temple of Set publications throughout the years and he created and led numerous workshops and Workings at local and international Temple of Set occasions in Europe and the States. He has studied comparative religions, philosophy, sociology, theology and pedagogics at the University of Turku in Finland. Comments about the book:Michael Aquino, PhD, in his introduction to Tapio Kotkavuori’s The Left Hand Path: ”The would-be magician faces the challenge not only of understanding magic and learning to use it, but also of being tolerated by non-magicians. And since conventional society’s moral standards do not take magic into account, the magician must also accept exceptional personal ethical responsibility for what he decides to do. It is because Tapio Kotkavuori’s book carefully and thoroughly addresses this entire range of considerations that it is such an excellent work. Too often, ”magical” books simply throw a collection of rituals or superstitions at the reader. These don’t work, as Frazer observes, because they are merely unthinking recitals. You might as well say ”E=mc2” without knowing what that formula actually signifies. This book, however, will introduce you to what you need to know to become a competent, effective, and ethical magician. It won’t make you an expert; that, as in any skill, you must develop within yourself through practise and experience. You are about to embark upon a great adventure: the expansion of your perception of reality beyond the obvious, the mundane, and the ordinary. It won’t be easy or simple, but once you have opened this door, I promise you that you will never be content to close it” Kenneth Granholm, PhD: ”The Left Hand Path is a unique work, shedding light on often neglected areas of contemporary western esotericism. The book gives a rare inside view into the complex philosophies and practices of Temple of Set, while still being highly accessible. The Left Hand Path provides sober information for the magician, the academic researcher, and the casual reader alike”. Don Webb, author and magician: ”The Left Hand Path was undoubtedly mankind’s first religion – paradoxically it has returned to be its newest as well. This volume opens deep vistas into both where mankind has been and is about to go. Uncle Setnakt says, ”Two horns up!”” Tapio Kotkavuori in his foreword to the Left Hand Path: ”This book aims to achieve two goals. The first of them, the exoteric goal, is directed to persons who are not on the left hand path themselves but who rationally want to consider what the path is all about. These persons may be parents, teachers, students, authorities, scholars, journalists, or friends or otherwise close persons to those who are on the left hand path. The second goal, the esoteric one, is directed to persons who have a certain kind of need to live on the left hand path. They also have a rational approach towards the path, but because of the intimate relationship to it this approach can be more precisely described as a suprarational one. For these individuals this book seeks to provide a certain kind of metaphysical compass and map of the universe for a journey to its greatest mystery, our own consciousness, the psyche. Whether the orientation of a reader is exoteric or esoteric one, I have aimed to make the book well informed, based on first hand sources and my own experiences, and to give an emphatic view of the left hand path”.
