Aquaman 2 Star Dolph Lundgren Teases ‘Greater Role’ As King Nereus In The Lost Kingdom

The veteran Hollywood star Dolph Lundgren will next be seen in Aquaman 2 and is glad it still remains industry relevant. Indeed, the 64-year-old man Rocky IV the actor teased a bigger role in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom like King Nereus.

Teaser previews of Aquaman 2 have so far ensured a more action-packed adventure with Jason Momoaof Arthur Curry alongside his co-star Patrick Wilsonof Orm. But it looks like Lundgren’s King Nereus will also get his fair share of prominent screen time in the upcoming Lost Kingdom. In an interview with Empire for the March 2022 issue, The Expendables The star discussed his recent role in the DCEU project and his appearance in Aquaman in 2018.

“It meant a lot that the director believed in me,” he says. “It was like a fresh start. In the new one, I have a bigger role and I really feel part of the team. I also like that a lot of the fans are very, very young – their parents might not even have been born when I did Rocky IV. It’s satisfying to feel relevant.

Lundgren’s role in the first installment remained largely on the sidelines as the film prioritized Aquaman and Mera (Amber Heard) screen time on their quest to find the trident and stop Orm’s conquest of the surface world. However, in the end, it’s evident that Nereus has accepted Arthur Curry as King of Atlantis, so it’ll be interesting to see what role Mera’s father plays in the sequel.

Director James Gunn’s Aquaman 2 might just be the first DC films to venture further into the outside world. In fact, the sequel was last filmed in Hawaii before announcing the end of production earlier this month.

So far, Warner Bros. kept much of the plot details for Aquaman 2 close to their vest. But a synopsis revealed last year in December confirmed a new threat that compels Arthur to take help from his brother:
“When an ancient power is unleashed, Aquaman must forge an uneasy alliance with an unlikely ally to protect Atlantis and the world from irreversible devastation.”

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will arrive in theaters on December 16, 2022.
