If you are a fan of animated films such as Taken away as if by magic, Paprikaand your namei have a trailer for a new epic fantasy anime movie titled The deer king. It looks like a visually impressive, beautifully made movie that will say and that just Masashi Andō, who is making his directorial debut. He worked as a character designer, animation director, and key animator on the movies I mentioned above. Masayuki Miyaji is co-director.
The film is based on a series of novels by Nahoko Uehashi and here are the story details of the movie:
In the aftermath of a brutal war, former soldier Van toils in a mine controlled by the ruling empire. One day, her lonely existence is turned upside down when a pack of wild dogs carrying a fatal and incurable disease attacks, leaving only Van and a young girl named Yuna as survivors. Free at last, the couple seek a simple existence in the countryside but are pursued by nefarious forces. Wanting to protect Yuna at all costs, Van must uncover the true cause of the plague ravaging the kingdom and its possible cure.
The fantasy film is going to take audiences on quite an adventurous journey, and it also feels like the kind of story that will strike emotional chords.
GKIDS will distribute the film and partner with Fathom Events to bring it to US theaters. The deer king will be released in select theaters on July 13, 2022.
