King of Bahrain affirms need to ensure regional maritime security against hostile actions

Bahraini King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa underscored the need to ensure regional maritime security against hostile action and the need to protect freedom of navigation and trade sea routes that serve the entire global economy.

During his reception of the main participants of the 17th IISS Manama Dialogue, King Hamad said that the Middle East, which is a very important region in the world, continues to be threatened in its security and stability in the face of to increasing challenges.

He reiterated Bahrain’s strong commitment to peace, dialogue and coexistence, as recently stipulated in the Abrahamic Accords, adding that these historic accords embody “our principled and courageous approach to achieving peace as the supreme objective of our region and of all its peoples “.

The king described the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries as the “cornerstone of stability”. He stressed the importance of their unity as a source of strength for all stakeholders in the region and abroad.

He affirmed Bahrain’s commitment to open channels of communication to resolve any stuck issues, according to the Bahrain News Agency (BNA).

Also, on the sidelines of the Forum, Foreign Minister Abdullatif al-Zayani met with the coordinator of the American National Security Council for the Middle East and North Africa, Brett McGurk.

The two sides reviewed the close historical relations between Bahrain and the United States, discussing ways to strengthen their cooperation in all fields for the benefit of the two countries.

They also reviewed the political and security developments in the region, the challenges that threaten it and the efforts being made to consolidate security, peace and development.

Zayani met with the Secretary General of the Islamic Military Coalition Against Terrorism (IMCTC) Pilot Major General Mohammed bin Saeed al-Mughidi and they discussed the Coalition’s efforts to coordinate joint action among all countries to combat against terrorism and its sources of funding.

They also approached the fight against the deviant terrorist ideology through the intellectual, media, military and financial fields.

The meeting discussed ways to enhance cooperation in the fight against terrorism and international efforts to combat it and achieve security and stability.

In addition, Zayani received Jason Isaacson, head of politics and political affairs of the American Jewish Committee.

They discussed aspects of the development of cooperation and coordination in all areas related to strengthening the foundations of peace and stability, spreading a culture of tolerance and peaceful coexistence, an exchange of views on the latest developments in the political situation in the region and to discussions on subjects of common interest.
