The King of Tooro, Oyo Nyimba, and the Minister of State for Investment, Evelyn Anite, on Friday laid the foundation stone for the construction of the Tooro Kingdom ICT Skills Center in the town of Fort Portal.
The King said the skills centre, being built near the Kingdom’s Parliament, is intended to equip young people with knowledge to take advantage of the emerging world of technology.
“The construction of the Tooro Kingdom ICT Skilling Center through the King Oyo Foundation aims to equip our young people with the skills to be competitive in the modern world,” King Oyo said.
He applauded Anite and a number of Kingdom partner entities including Equity Bank, UNDP and others.
“I thank Hon Anite Evelyn and our development partners for agreeing to partner with the Kingdom,” he said.
Anite provided 100 bags of cement for the project, Equity Bank 100 bags, Uganda Investment Authority 200 bags.
The minister praised the king for his visionary leadership and focus on nurturing the youth in his kingdom.
“I am truly honored to be part of the launch of this ITC Competence Center. I especially thank the King for his visionary leadership and for ensuring his subjects are taught the skills necessary for our modern times,” Anite said.
The King then took Anite and her delegation, including Uganda Investment Authority Chairman of the Board, Morrison Rwakakamba, and Managing Director, Robert Mukiza, to his model farm in Bugaaki, in the district of Kyenjojo.
The King Oyo Model Farm, which includes livestock, animal husbandry and aquaculture, is established to train youths and farmers in better and improved farming methods.
