Canadian indie rock band King of Foxes are back this fall with their upcoming third album, Twilight of the Empire. Led by singer-songwriter and guitarist Olivia Street, the band created a powerful style of indie rock, encapsulating and distilling their influences in a blend of polished songwriting, infectious guitar hooks and evocative lyricism. Last month, the band shared their latest single from the upcoming album, “Doomed To Repeat,” and today they shared the accompanying video, premiering with Under the Radar.

“Doomed To Repeat” finds Street exploring his own self-destructive tendencies in a relentlessly catchy way. Driving piano melodies and choppy guitar lines give the track an upbeat freewheeling feel, backing up Street’s indelible vocals and the song’s irresistible hook. The resulting track is an exuberant joy, even as Street’s lyrics reveal the restlessness of past mistakes coming back to haunt you 一 “But when you come / There’s all kinds of cracks to be found / In the peace I keep / And I’ I drag a stone alone over this hill / It’s a past I’m doomed to repeat.

Speaking on the single, Street explains, “There’s an oft-repeated phrase about letting go of ‘all the things that no longer serve you’. It’s a lot easier said than done. I’m am often found stuck at the messy intersection between my needs and the realities of the situation I find myself in. Like Sisyphus, you may be pushing the same rock up the same mountain every day. Something has to give.
