The Deer King hits UK cinemas on July 27 – News

Anime limited has Tweeted than the movie The deer king (Shika no Ō: Yuna in Yakusoku no Tabi), the animated film by Nahoko Uehashiit is Shika no Ō (The deer king) series of medical fantasy novels, will screen in the UK from July 27, both dubbed and subtitled.

The novels center about Van, the leader of a group of soldiers who expected to die fighting for their lands against a great empire seeking to incorporate their home into its realm. Instead of dying, however, Van is taken as a slave and thrown into a salt mine. One night, a pack of strange dogs attacks the salt mine and a mysterious illness breaks out. During the attack, Van takes the opportunity to escape, and he meets a young girl. Elsewhere, the rumor is spreading that only immigrants contract this mysterious disease. Medical scientist Hossal risks his life to search for a cure. Doctors are also studying a father and child who appear to have survived the disease. The novels tell the interconnected stories and bonds of those struggling against a cruel fate.

The anime film premiered in Japan on February 4. The film was delayed from a September 2020 opening due to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), and delayed again from September 2021.

Masashi Andō (Princess Mononoke, Taken away as if by magic, your name. character design; Tokyo Godfathers, paranoia agent, When Marnie Was Here, your name. animation director) directed the film alongside Masayuki Miyaji (Xam’d: Lost Memories, Rocket: Memoirs of a Hunter) at Production GI. Ando also drew the character designs and was the chief animation director. Taku Kishimoto (Haikyu!!, DELETED, Fruit basket) wrote the screenplay. Harumi Fuuki (Piano Forest series, Miss Hokusai, Digimon Adventure: Latest Kizuna Evolution) composed the music. Singer-songwriter millet created the theme song “One Reason” for the film.

The film was screened in competition at last year’s Annecy International Animation Film Festival in June. The film screened at International Fantasy Film Festival in August 2021 and won the Bronze Audience Award there. It was also screened at the Animation Is Film Festival in Los Angeles in September 2021.

The novels won the Japan Booksellers’ Award and won the fourth “Japan Medical Novel Award” in 2015.
